Posted by balaji 2 hours 58 minutes ago (http://jayarava.blogspot.com)
Early Buddhists seem to have missed the main point of the Upaniṣads, the oneness of Atman with Brahman. Ironically centuries later they adopted more or less the same idea in the form of the Tathāgatagarbha for precisely the same reasons the Brahmins adopted it - it explains how liberation is possible for someone mired in saṃsara.

Posted by balaji 3 days ago (http://in.news.yahoo.com)
There were probably dozens of instances of negligence that led to the grain being wasted, and each of those would legitimately be open to judicial scrutiny, but how stocks of food are to be used is a matter of legislative policy, in which the court has absolutely no business getting involved.

Posted by balaji 5 days ago (http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com)
Ajai Shankar, former industry secretary, has an excellent suggestion for self-targeting in food — mix wheat flour (atta) with soya flour, raising its protein content but making it less palatable. Richer folk will not eat this, but poor people will. Such protein fortification of atta could help reduce protein deficiency in pregnant women and children.

Posted by balaji 10 days ago (http://swaminomics.org)
The communist experience shows that giving welfare rights priority over basic freedoms is the road to serfdom. And the capitalist welfare state now shows that entitlements, although desirable and inevitable in democracies, must be limited and targeted at the needy, so that they do not hog all spending or bankrupt governments.
Christophe Jaffrelot: Hindutva's Politics of Denial

This politics of denial—or worse, the legitimisation of Hindu nationalist violence is bound to be counterproductive. Inequality before the law will generate additional frustrations among Muslim youth, preparing the ground for the recruitment of new militants by Islamist organisations. Justice, on the contrary, can defuse resentment and the desire to take revenge.
